State Farm has a commercial in fairly heavy rotation at the moment1 – it’s got cars in living rooms and LARPing… so, yeah. Cranking hard on the laugh lever? Anyhow, there’s a little snippet in the middle where a bride tosses her bouquet and grabs a toaster with the line “Gimme! Gimme!” Not a big fan of the commercial – although the LARPing is entertaining for 10 seconds.

Vulnerability

A few years back Nassim Nicholas Taleb wrote a book called Antifragile: Things That Gain from Disorder.1 Unsurprisingly, the book is most concerned with not being fragile. Usually, the fix is to become resilient, or the ability to withstand hardship. The book makes the case that Antifragility – the ability to thrive in the face of chaos and hardship – is better.

Which is good, I think. It seems to me that getting better as the chaos around you grows is, well… advantageous.

The Opener

Hey! It’s 2018 and I’m starting whatever the heck this is. It might be considered a blog – except peak blogging was something like 10 years ago and everything has moved to The Facebooks, Instagramming, and Twitterverse (which in turn are crashing and burning). I don’t know what’s next, but the IndieWeb makes a compelling case for owning your own stuff… so here I am with an actual website. I make videos for a living, so yes, there will be videos. But not a vlog, because this is more intentional than a slice-of-life vlog. Videos will be hosted on YouTube, so maybe a YouTube Show? 1
